How Blogging Can Make You Known
With the blogosphere being as large as it is and growing more by the second, many bloggers forget that blogging can be the way that they make a name for themselves on the internet. Some bloggers have become experts in their particular fields—you’ll see them on the news, quoted in magazines and making appearances on talk shows. Other bloggers have turned their blogs into lucrative book contracts with major publishers. Still other bloggers are known, simply, as Bloggers. So how can blogging make you known?Â
The first thing you have to do to make yourself known as a Blogger of Worth is to find a subject that interests you and then go after it. Whether that subject is your own family (Dooce), politics (DailyKos), celebrities (Perez Hilton), making money (John Chow) or even blogging itself (Darren Rowse) it is possible to make quite a name for yourself using only your blog. The key is to know and love your subject. Sure some subjects are more popular than others, but if you go after a subject simply for the revenue it might bring in or because it is more popular than what you love, it will show. It will show quickly.Â
The trick, in addition to finding a subject that you know and love is to find a subject that you can constantly write about. The regular updating of your (new and interesting) content will draw visitors and those visitors will convert other visitors to your site. Remember, in blogging, content is all there is. Sure having a pretty design helps, but nobody is going to visit your site to sit and stare at the design every day. Make sure you have something new for them to read.Â
Finally, blog for yourself. While a lot of bloggers might start blogging with the idea of fame and (hopefully) fortune sitting somewhere in their heads, you should blog because you want to. Blog because it is good for your business. Don’t blog simply to make yourself known. People who blog for attention are obvious and usually don’t succeed in their endeavors. It is the people who love their subjects, write about them often and do so for the simple joy of spending time on something they like that are noticed and become the experts in their fields.Â
Keep in mind that the blogosphere is growing. You never know who is going to be the new “It” blogger. If you keep at it, it might very well be you!

thank for the tips
All useful information there.
Right, don’t care about the income or other things at the begining, just try to write useful content^.^
And don’t be worried that your topic may be “saturated”. If you know your stuff and have your own *style*, it will show and people will return.
Inspiring…
You know I was listening to Jason Calacanis’ podcast in which he suggests that there is a simple three step method to becoming an a-lister.
The first is reading a big niche tracker like techmeme.
The second is writing an intelligent post as a followup or reflection.
The third is writing an intelligent comment on the original post.
After a little while you’ll have some serious traffic and will become known.
Yes it is growing bit dont you thinking over exposure sometimes kills
Although I’m not a huge fan of Jason Calacanis, this is all good stuff, thanks for the tips!
I like Darren Rowse from the people I mentioned in this post.. and John Chow is second on this list
You can definitely make a great name for yourself… Perez Hilton has made a great name for himself both offline and online… his site makes A TON of $
Interesting, thanks for sharing this Hafiz…
Good advice… but don’t you have as much chance of writing a bestselling book as a bestselling blog? You might as well through your energy toward writing a novel.
I don’t think blogosphere will come to the top so soon. It will come but it will need some more time.
but if you don’t have the money required to write a book I think blogging is the answer
Thank you so much for sharing such useful info.
Great point Dennis. Though some niches are definitely much more difficult to survive in, if you have your own style it will draw attention and attract readers.
Yes Jacky, writing useful content is key to the success of a blog.
You have as good of chance at anything as the effort you are willing to put in… You could write a best-selling blog and compile and organize your articles to put in a book (if they’re good enough)…
What are you saying here Free Bet?
Nice post. I do agree with you that we should blogging for ourself…Impossible we could get success in blogging if we don’t enjoy it.
Yes Leslie, we should always choose something we are passionate about because we will naturally push ourselves to put more effort into the work.
And this increased motivation will allow us to keep going past the three month mark.
Couldn’t agree more. I also think that blogging for the enjoyment is the way to go — money will always follow.
