Good Blog, Bad Blog – Serial 1

March 6, 2008

Because I want to bring you regular content, one of the features I have been considering adding to this site is Good blog, Bad blog. We will surf the Internet and find two blogs. One that will be good and one that will be bad.

For the first “Good blog,” I decided to highlight Sentences.org. Sentences is a blog that not very many people know about, but it is full of information about everything having to do with work. There are articles and posts about writing, interviews, client choices, etc. While Sentences feels more like a webzine about the working world, it is actually a blog and one that has been put together very well! Each of the site’s categories is neatly labeled and easy to access and the graphics that accompany the articles make you feel more like you are reading a professionally put together magazine. The design it’s cleaned and nice also.

For the first “Bad blog” I decided to choose Clicksbucks.com because, well, I’m not sure if it is a blog. It comes up under a search for blogs, but when I look at it—well, where is the content? There seems to be a paragraph about affiliate programs, but it is smashed into a small section of the front page of the site. The rest of the page is given over to advertising and a list of links, some of which are most likely referral links to other affiliate programs. This person obviously wants to make money—but how he does it is beyond me. Also the design it’s not nice everything looks messed up.

If you are a blogger, you will know that blogging is subjective—what one person loves, another will not. This post looks at two extremes in terms of “good” and “bad.” Future posts will talk about blogs that fall somewhere between the two extremes.

On the next Good Blog, Bad Blog post I’ll look and choose from commentators sites :)

Cynthia March 7, 2008 at 3:13 am

Well it is subjective but even if people are happy, many of them still wont give feedback of comments. Quite annoying really when you put the work in to write posts and no one even gives feedback.

Good blog is helping us to built our knowledge. As a intellectual person I want to see good blogs and avoid bad blogs.

I have never known what a good blog is till I read your article. Thanks alot! Really appreciate it.

Great entry! I agree, bad blogging is derived from individuals who wish to focus directly on monetizing a blog without any intention to supply the reader with quality content. However content on the web cannot be controlled….

Fine! There is a lot of scrap in the blog scene. From Lima, Peru.

Good description of a good blog and bad blog Stefan. I didn’t know about Sentences.org and think that it is a very quality website. Everything does look “messed up” on clickbucks. It’s definitely a site that makes you want to click the red “X” before continuing w/ reading.

Sentences.org is really very good, especially the design.I like it

I like to see all tips of blog. Because it helps me to find the difference between good blog and bad blog.

Stefan March 8, 2008 at 9:30 am

This serial intention is not to describe blogs like problogger but to show you blogs that you never heard of and that are on their good way..

Dennis Edell March 8, 2008 at 10:35 am

Interesting new feature. I look forward to seeing more, as long as I’m on one side and not the other :-)

Great info,

Claudia March 9, 2008 at 7:17 am

Urgh, the bad one is really bad. He really wants to make money but I am not sure he knows exactly how to do it. I am sure it is not by writing since he has nothing to add.
I loved the sentences.org. The layout is great :)

By clicking to the bad blog you already give him some traffic, haha..anyway, he should understand the real way to make money by blogging. Ask him to come here instead. Than he will know..

Claudia March 10, 2008 at 3:24 pm

To the last commenter: You are right. I almost wish my blog is that bad so I can get some visitors :D

Pete March 12, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Wow that Clickbucks.com site is pretty bad. I don’t know man, I’m not sure if I want that kind of publicity. If http://ww2db.com ever gets so bad, I hope you guys would do me a favor and warn me! :)

Hafiz Dhanani March 16, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Ugh. Clickbucks is horrible. It’s ridiculous that they’re in ReviewMe’s database for $60. With an Alexa rank of over 2 million I can’t see anyone ordering a review.

@balootisme.com April 5, 2008 at 2:54 am

but, its quite ok..

they got PR2…

Fatsgone, easydiet May 16, 2008 at 1:59 am

Hopefully my blog will not be categorized as a bad blog :p

condoms May 20, 2008 at 7:55 am

i wonder what kind of blog that i have? hopefully not a bad blog that mention above XD

space code May 21, 2008 at 3:15 am

I would categorize bad blogs as blogs that focus on monetizing without any good posts. the example you gave is a good one

Andrew Pavelski March 7, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Cool Stefan. I wouldn’t mind if you reviewed mine ;)

Dennis Edell March 17, 2008 at 7:02 am

Your right, they haven’t even posted since this post was made.

Unfortunately tho, you’d be shocked at how many people don’t know nor care about Alexa ranking. I’m sure they didn’t start at $60, so some must buy it.

Andrew Pavelski March 22, 2008 at 10:22 am

Like Dennis mentioned, a lot of sites don’t care about Alexa rank…

Andrew Pavelski March 22, 2008 at 10:20 am

It really depends on your point of view as to what defines a “bad blog.” I agree though, a lot of bad blogs are crammed with ads and lack quality content.

Hafiz Dhanani March 30, 2008 at 9:56 am

Spammer.

Andrew Pavelski March 30, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Yeah, I agree Jacky, sentences looks great!

Hafiz Dhanani March 31, 2008 at 12:04 pm

I wouldn’t mind a review!
