Good Blog, Bad Blog – Serial 2

March 9, 2008

Welcome to Good Blog, Bad Blog series. This is the second serial and on this one I promised to choose a blog from commentators. The good blog is Andrew’s blog. To find out more informations about Andrew check his blog : http://www.andrewpavelski.com

andrew

The design is very nice. There are some layout problems with the sidebar, but the colors and the general look is very nice. The content also is very good.

Here are some posts that I liked from his blog:

You will laugh but finding a bad blog it is a hard job so after some minutes of searching I finally found it. The bad blog is : http://www.adiumx.com/blog.

adium

If you visit that blog once.. I don’t think you will do it again. Adium is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN.. and other messengers. I didn’t test their application but their blog is very bad.

They don’t have a sidebar, they don’t have categories. All they have on their “blog” is the posts – the content and on the footer are monthly archives.

What do you think about these two blogs?

PS : Take care of your blog or you will get on the next serial on the Bad Blog part!

Hey Stefan, I appreciate you featuring my blog as a “good blog.” I think my sidebar is a little overcrowded, but I’m hoping to change that with a new WordPress theme that I bought. The adium blog seems to get visitors and commenters, but it’s really TOO plain. They could really attract a lot more visitors with a better design!

I’m actually a little confused by the content of the blog. I’m wondering if you’re writing for SEO or for the reader. Here’s an example:
The best strategy to creating a successful blog and keeping it successful is to get yourself into a daily routine. Do you currently have a specific block of time that you set aside for blogging purposes? If you don’t, I really encourage you to consider getting one. If you already do set aside a chunk of time each day for blogging, I think that you’ve probably been much more successful than someone who doesn’t set aside daily time for blogging. Below, I’ve discussed how you can get yourself into a daily blogging routine and the various benefits that follow having a good routine.

* * *

You use the word successful and the phrase “daily blogging” over and over not just in the paragraph but in the entire post. Are you repeating yourself for a reason?

Are you talking about PerfectBlogging or about Andrew’s blog?

Soa March 10, 2008 at 11:01 am

A little more creativity could sure help them out!

Dennis Edell March 10, 2008 at 12:10 pm

I’m sorry, did anyone actually *scroll* the Adium blog? It’s perfect for what it is. And no, if you’re not using their services, you’re not going back to their blog; obviously…

It’s not a “business blog” of any kind, it’s updates and bug fixes for their service.

Do they need ads? A blogroll? Categories? For what??

Sorry, I don’t use their services, but I think this was a horribly misjudged review.

Someone tell me what I’m missing…..

Stefan March 10, 2008 at 12:28 pm

They could turn it into a business one so they can have some revenue or some donations because their software is free. And a sidebar with categories and other informations will help a lot the visitors..

Please God, don’t feature me as a “Bad Blog” one day.

I like this series though. Keep it up

Ashwin kandoi March 10, 2008 at 10:19 pm

I am not sure Dennis what what do you intend to explain through this post

Ashwin kandoi March 11, 2008 at 2:51 am

As it is said sometime controversy helps and though being a bad blog they have a free review on this website increasing a lot of traffic to their website.

So Either you have to be very good or you have to be very bad.

Well.. you can always find advantages on any situation :)
But how many returning visitors they have?

issa March 12, 2008 at 4:54 am

im not scared being in your “bad blog” list — that’s a free link! LOL =) anyhoo, i really love this serial of yours. cant wait for the next one!

Stefan March 12, 2008 at 5:21 am

hehe.. good point :)

Dennis Edell March 13, 2008 at 3:33 pm

I agree with those thinking a “bad” rap might not be an exceptionally bad thing. A lot of readers (myself included lol) will click the bad one first just to see what the fuss is about.

Afterwards each reader will make up their own mind anyway. After all, a review of any kind, is just “one persons opinion”.

ankara nakliyat March 19, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Hi
excellent info cool idea.
thanks

Jacky March 9, 2008 at 8:08 pm

I’m looking forward to seeing your new theme, friend^.^

Andrew Pavelski March 10, 2008 at 5:15 pm

Hey Cynthia, I am not writing for SEO. If my post topic does in fact help me move up in search engines for specific keywords – I won’t be complaining. I write for my readers with my current blogging knowledge and share my opinions.

The purpose of that specific article was about “getting into a daily blogging routine.” It really does make sense for me to use those keywords.

I appreciated your interest in my blog cynthia ;) Feel free to ask any more questions.

Andrew Pavelski March 10, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Hey Dennis, I did scroll the Adium blog. I think it definitely is serving it’s purpose, but could be greatly improved. I think if it were improved, more people would be willing to participate and share their comments.

Dennis Edell March 11, 2008 at 7:39 am

I’m a little confused, what are you asking me?

Andrew Pavelski March 13, 2008 at 1:58 pm

I definitely agree with issa, you’re series of “good blogs, bad blogs” catches my attention and is something your readers enjoy. Keep up the good work ;)

Dennis Edell March 13, 2008 at 3:35 pm

I meant to add – plus if its a decent negative review you can really help them out.

A decent negative is tips on techniques. “This blog sucks because…” is not :-)

Andrew Pavelski March 22, 2008 at 10:32 am

If you do happen to get featured as a bad blog, look at it as constructive criticism and work to improve it to a good blog! Though the connotations associated with “bad” aren’t necessarily positive…

Hafiz Dhanani March 16, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Andrew, the blogging experiment theme you`ve got is definitely an improvement.

I`m not a fan of the theme though.

In terms of premium themes i much prefer Brian`s revolution theme.

Andrew Pavelski March 22, 2008 at 10:33 am

It’s definitely a cool idea that quickly catches the attention of Stefan’s readers :)

Hafiz Dhanani March 30, 2008 at 10:04 am

Just wanted to let you know Andrew, that I really enjoyed your review of Court’s blog. It was very thorough.

Hafiz Dhanani March 30, 2008 at 10:05 am

This is what we call constructive criticism.

Andrew Pavelski March 30, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Hafiz.

Andrew Pavelski March 30, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Thanks Hafiz. I’ve been focusing strictly on writing quality posts.
