Good Blog, Bad Blog - Serial 3

Hi and welcome to Good Blog, Bad Blog Serial 3. I really start enjoying these serials and I enjoy searching for good blogs and for bad blogs also. So… the good blog is TV of the Absurd

TV of the Absurd

The owner

Cynthia Boris is the owner of this site and it is on my Top commentators list but this is not the reason I selected her blog for the good blog. On her about page she wrote : “Cynthia Boris has been a TV fangirl since she was a young teen but now she’s a freelance entertainment reporter, which means she can chase down TV stars for a living instead of just for fun”.

The site

The site is well structured and cleaned. Cynthia is using a free theme but what I appreciate is that it’s cutomized. It has a new header and other colors. What I would change is the text on the header.. maybe other font or the way the text is aligned. The logo it is nice.

Now the bad blog.. The G-Manologue - Greg’s blog..

Greg's blog

The owner

The “happy” owner of this blog is a man called Greg and his nickname is G-Man. He’s writing humor and comedy and you can find more on his about page.

The site

This blog is the bad blog because as you can see the design is bad.. the content it’s not updated often, the last post was published on 27th of February. I’m very curious if you like his posts so I am asking you to read one or two. My opinion is that his writing it’s not that bad. Anyway the first thing I would change is the theme or the design. Then the site will require more content and more posts.

It’s 23:42 here.. I’m sleepy and tired. Serial 3 it’s done. What do you think?

  1. Wow, you have a interesting concept when it comes to the Good and Bad… I would hate to be on the bad blog end of things… but at least they still get a backlink, right? lol

  2. T.V. of the absurd definitely has a nice quality layout. I don’t think that the G-malone blog is necessarily “bad,” I just don’t think it fits his blog well. The design is definitely too plain and could be improved. He could definitely spice things up by adding some graphics other than that pen!

  3. Interesting you picked this week, I just today updated the blog with a pro theme and am now having issues! Please forgive the mess while I clean up!

  4. I like TV of the Absurd. I enjoy the reviews and interviews. G-Manologue could use some photos, videos, anything to make it more visually interesting.

  5. Cynthia’s blog is very nice indeed (I joined the SG contest! lol).

As for G-man, I wouldn’t consider it “bad” either. He has definitely accomplished a *clean* look, but yes perhaps too clean.

I most agree with the header. There’s definitely too much white space.

  6. Btw cynthia, I DID comment on the wrong post first LOL. (Slow day)

  7. I just noticed G-mans blog is a freebie from wordpress.com…..there might not be a whole lot he can do with it as far as updating is concerned.

They have much stricter rules then Blogger freebies.

  8. heh.. I forgot to mention that he needs to get a domain and hosting :) and btw.. what’s funny is that Cynthia got a new theme exactly after I reviewed her blog hehe..

  9. Well, if its strictly a personal nonsensical blog as it appears then free is perfectly fine.

However this may indeed be why there’s no real “umph” to it. As stated, WP.com doesn’t allow much leeway at all.

  10. yes cynthisas Blog is really well done

  11. good blog can give good money :)

  12. Agreed.

The content isn’t too bad, and the typography is pretty nice.

There are definitely some things he could do to make it better.

The theme is quite boring right now.

  13. Not necessary good blogs give good money I think it is good content which gives good money

  14. I think a regular frequency with content updating is way more important than design or anything else (though of course it’s not saying design is not important). Take a look at my World War II Database ( http://ww2db.com ) for example. I brew up the design myself, so it’s kind of amateurish, lacking some fancy graphic elements that others sites have. However, traffic grew 50% in the past 3 months, a significant portion of it loyal. I think my daily updates has something to do with it.

  15. Hey, it’s fun (and wild) to see people commenting on my blog. It’s a miracle you found it, as I am, as you can tell, a novice blogger and not really trying to attract a whole lot of attention at this point, so um, thanks for THAT. :) Sometimes my blog is just the “scraps” from what my local newspaper won’t run. I don’t have a lot time to invest in “making it pretty”– but that’s not really the point for me. It was originally supposed to be a vehicle for my humor material (hence the G-Manologue, like, you know, for G-Man’s Monologue), but with a wife and two kids, a full-time job, providing North Carolina Tarheel basketball content on MVN.com and my desire to submit at least one humor column to my local paper per month, it’s definitely fallen by the wayside and has become a place for friends and family to find out how to catch my next newspaper column. I appreciate everyone’s advice. But just for the record, this is a more of a personal laboratory for me at this stage.

By the way, I picked the pen because… um, I’m a WRITER.

(This is where I begin a condescending rant about how people used to use pens to write even though I myself have been pen-free for a good 5 or so years now.)

    Take care, folks!

  16. Oh definitely, I don’t know that I’m too motivated to return to his theme…

  17. I wasn’t aware that it was a freebie… that explains a lot of the problem…

  18. Wow, Cynthia did get a new theme…the new theme still looks great ;)

  19. I definitely agree Pete, a regular posting frequency w/ good content is the most important! However, a theme can make a huge difference in gaining readers and getting them to return!

  20. Interesting Greg, thanks for stopping by to let us know more about your life and your blog!

  21. I agree, content is what makes money: take a look at Steve Pavlina’s blog… he makes 40K + per month.

  22. If the blogging is about personal life there is nothing to think but to give a nice description in the post. No good or bad blogging should be measured.

  23. Hi…
I’m a new visitor here and get impressed with this post. I think this kind of post is interesting. But maybe we can make a definite performance criterias with measurable value. For ex : design, content, creativity, etc with value 1 to 5.

  24. G-man’s is definitely not “bad,” but it is pretty plain…

  25. It’s an interesting series that attracts attention from Stefan’s readers.

  26. It’s definitely interesting Leslie and catches a lot of attention because of it ;)

  27. Definitely, if you work hard and create a good blog, you can make some good online $.

  28. You are right…I can see many visitor leave comment here. Keep up the good work :)…

  29. Not necessarily. For example Lorelle on Wordpress is an excellent blog that is hosted on wordpress.com.

  30. Lorelle does a great job and is definitely one of the exceptions!
