Finding Your Niche
What is a niche? A niche is sort of like a category. It is a specialty subject around which your blog will revolve. Of course, not every blog has to have a single niche. Many people simply blog about their lives and are happy not fitting into a box. If one of your goals is to monetize your site, however, finding a niche is a good idea. So how do you find your niche?
What are you interested in? Before you worry about what will sell well or whether or not you can create enough content on a single subject, ask yourself what you are interested in. It is far easier to create content on a subject in which you are interested. If you doubt this, ask a content writer: there is nothing as boring as having to create content about something that you are not interested in. If you are interested in the subject, you are more likely to spend time researching it and creating content about it.
Don’t be afraid of expanding your niche. You don’t want to pigeonhole your blog. If, for example, you are very interested in vegetarian cooking, consider expanding your topic to the vegetarian lifestyle. While you might want to center your posts on vegetarian recipes, opening up your niche to the lifestyle will give you the opportunity to post about issues that might not have to do with food. You could, for example, talk about animal testing or the corporate farms versus family farms.
Finding your niche does not have to be a long or arduous process. If you are concerned with monetization think of this: you will sell more ads if you have steady traffic. You will have steady traffic if you update your content regularly. You are more likely to update your content if you are interested in the subject that you are writing about.

Hey Stefan I liked the article
Finding a good niche really comes down to being passionate. If you jump in the “make money online niche” or a “self improvement niche” just because you think it will make you rich, you’re sadly mistaken. What really makes a blog enjoyable to read and write for, is a topic that’s intrinsically interesting to YOU. When you choose what you like and are passionate, the money will follow: it’s a win-win
You’ve got some point there.I couldn’t agree more.A blog specializing in a main topic is more likely to be successful.
ps:To tell the truth,I didn’t knon the exact meaning of ‘niche’ before reading this post.thanks
Yes, i agree niche does help you in creating a sucessfull blog as well as it helps in generating some extra money and keeps your interest going up
Very rightly said, if a person is interested in something he/she may go to any length to have that work complete. Their is an extra effort which automatically comes from the individual.

Niche marketing is soaring everyday. There’s tons of info available if you’re interested
I wish I could find my niche.
Nice post. I’ve always heard that niche sites are more successful. But, I think most readers wouldn’t mind some off-topic posts every now and then. If you really really want to write about something, I think you should even if it doesn’t fit perfectly into your niche. You never know, you might enjoy writing about something new so much that you’ll find another niche site to start!
Best bet fro finding ‘niche’ is to concentrate on something you find of interest.
I’d agree with the above comment, works for me!
I’d agree with the comment above, it works for me!
I think Make money online sites are the most successfull sites. Telling others to make money online
One really great way of establishing oneself as an expert in a niche is by choosing a sub-niche and then later expanding out as you mentioned in your post.
Some great bloggers did this including Darren Rowse.
There are many other sites w/ more success than MMO sites. I think that the niche is quite oversaturated and very tough to compete in…
Definitely, Darren is a great example
You can find your niche… What do you enjoy?
I think every blog should have a niche. Not a matter the blog contains personal information or not but there should be. Niche should be given in a nice and polite way.
The blog I’ve spent the most time on, and have been the most successful with, is the one that had the narrowest of focuses. I think everyone wants to write about everything, but for the most part each of us have one or two niches that we are very knowledgeable in and can write with authority on. Those are the niches to blog about.
Definitely, being passionate about your topic makes things much easier
It depends Beth, some readers would probably get annoyed if you started posting random posts about what you ate for dinner or what you watched on T.V. if your blog is about a different niche… John Chow can pull of the rambling though
Thanks for sharing your experience The User. Too narrow of topic can be bad, but most blogs aren’t narrow enough.
That would definitely be nice to see Free Bet, but unfortunately many blogs are very difficult to determine the niche…
That’s all you’ve really got to do
Of course. Take for example John Chow. He didn`t start his blog to make big money. He did it as a water cooler for things he was interested in. It just so happened that he became big.
I disagree, too many “main topics” are oversaturated with other blogs. Finding a new niche will make things easier!
And you could always expand out. For example ProBlogger was focused on making money when it first started out, and now discusses a wide variety of topics related to blogging.
I agree that having a niche you’re passionate about is better. But you can also discover chances by looking through keywords people often use. Then you don’t have to build the content by yourself, you can have a ghostwriter to do it. But of course it’ll take more money. But if that’s a profitable niche and you’ve some funds, why not?
Great advice there, pick something you are interested in and write about it. Doing something now is more important that, wasting time looking for the “perfect niche”. The perfect niche is the one that makes you write new content everyday.
