Everyone has heard of Adsense. It is one of the “oldest” and most recognized forms of website advertising on the internet. Created by Google and used by most websites, many people just sign up for Adsense and install the code without thinking about it. If you have decided to sell some space on your website to advertisers, you might want to take a moment and ask yourself: Is Adsense Good for Me?
Adsense is easy to use and easy to understand and that is one of the reasons it is popular. You put the code on your website and Google gives you a percentage of the money they make when people click on the ads that you display. Simple right? Yes and no. Adsense has a bunch of very strict rules and it is very easy to get banned from the program. In fact, some of the basic methods of website promotions (traffic exchange programs, etc) will get you banned from the program for click fraud!
Website advertising is becoming more and more accepted and there are plenty of advertising alternatives to Adsense if you aren’t thrilled with the idea of that program. Yahoo and Amazon both have advertising programs. If you are putting advertising on a blog, BlogAds, Text Link Ads, and BlogHer all offer reliable advertising services.
You can also sell advertising as an independent agent, that way you won’t have to split the revenue with anyone!
Before you sign up for Adsense, ask yourself what you want to accomplish with your advertising. Do you want to pay for your hosting? Do you want control over the ads? Do you want advertising to be your sole source of income? Make sure you have answers to these questions before you decide whether or not Adsense is good for you!

Adsence is good for everyone, whomever it may be and in what type of website it is except adult pages
Hi!
I am a Google Certified Advertising Professional and have been using both Google Adwords/Adsense and Yahoo Search Marketing for a long time. One of my largest clients are using 5.5 million dollars each year only on Google Adwords and as for wath I can see Google Search generates the highest level of click to the lowest price. Yahoo Search Marketing is not that good, but is increasing in popularity in Norway because of the integration with some of the largest search engines available. (Where Google is not represented). The clicks are also a lot cheaper, perhaps because of the competition. Google site targeting through Adsense gives my clients less click for a higher amount of money, and only a few of them are experiencing success with the Adsense program on their own sites. The clients are also complaining on the lack of relevance in the ads displayed. I guess Google will continue to improve this function.
Interesting post!
Regards,
Trond
I think that Google Adsense is a good way of earning money through your website because the ads are geographically targeted and are relevant to the page content where they are displayed.
Google Adsense has been a big moneymaker for my websites. For http://ww2db.com , it makes up a significant portion of income and is increasingly steadily, even at the face of directly solicited ads that I have.
Adsense is always good for me
google adsense has been all over the internet and of course I have heard many people making good money through it. I too would like to take part in the adsense money making program.
I agree with Dennis. And also, for all you know, Google Adsense may present your competitor’s ads on your site.
“Adsense has a bunch of very strict rules and it is very easy to get banned from the program”
Can you explain a few?
I think Adsense is good and an easier way to put ads on our site with relevant ads. Harder way, but may can be a better way, is put direct ads to our site. We can totally control our ads display, and of course no one will ban us
Don’t always go with Adsense, often with just a little bit of experimenting you’ll find that you’ve been throwing away cheap clicks when you can make more with affiliates.
The big thing to remember with Adsense unless you are getting a lot of traffic you will be waiting forever to actually get paid. I saw a public poll not so long back that suggested the average payout was about 40 cents per thousand impressions so the math isn’t hard to do when figuring up that $100 check vs the number of site hits you get.
There is no reason not to include it in noobie sites if the advertising fits, but you shouldn’t be hoping to make it on adsense alone for quite some time.
It depends on what kind of site and target audience you have. Placements and design also matters. Some go well with Adsense, while some go better with other ad networks or affiliate products.
Affiliates programs give you much more percents from the selling transaction but I don’t think that they are better than Adsense.
I wonder when a worthy adsense competitor is going to be launched … something that directly competes with them. I don’t consider YPN a competitor yet because they haven’t opened up their enrollment.
Quite untrue. There’s a few forms of websites where it is not good for adsense. One of the most prevalent would be direct sales based websites.
If your primary goal is to sell specific product(s)then you do not want anything there to entice visitors to click off for mere pennies.
I dont think so.
Blogs with readers from the ones of internet savvies usually don’t generate many clicks on adsense. Their readers recognize an ad as soon as they catch them in their eyes
Usually.
One of the publishers biggest complaints is a lot of non-relevant and sometimes completely ridiculous ad displays.
I think there needs to be some cooperations from the site’s content for Adsense to display related ads. The more specific the content, more relevant ads will be displayed.
Go for it!
It’s all in their TOS
The main rule on Adsense is not clicking on your ads and not encouraging others to click on them.
Playing by their rules isn’t so difficult either.
How much does it cost to get certified?
Looks like I am higher than the average when it comes to making money with adsense. I get $1,35 per 1000 impressions.
I agree. one of the advantages for having adsense on new sites is learning the best design so they’ll be ready as soon as the site gains traffic.
I agree. We can manage our own ads and treat our site as we want. but until we get a decent amount of visitors interesting enough for advertisers, we can install Adsense to learn our CTR.
Adesense is good for everyone.
